How to apply

1. Degree students

In order to study for a degree at the Theatre Academy, students must possess great artistic talent and a good command of either Finnish or Swedish. The Guide for Applicants available in Finnish and Swedish describes the entrance requirements for each degree programme. The application dates vary from one degree programme to another but are usually in early spring. The entrance exams/auditions follow in several phases and are held in Helsinki.

2. Exchange and visiting students

The Theatre Academy of Finland participates in many international student exchange programmes, such as Socrates/Erasmus, Nordplus and FIRST. Within these programmes, exchange students are admitted to study at the Theatre Academy under agreements between the Academy and a foreign university. The Theatre Academy also has a few bilateral agreements with foreign universities. Students enrolled at other foreign universities may be considered as well. Applications must be submitted well before the intended start of study. The decision on admittance is made for each applicant and for each course individually.

3. Doctoral/Postgraduate students

Applications for postgraduate studies are invited from candidates who already hold a higher (Master’s level) academic degree or the equivalent in theatre or in dance. Applications may be submitted at any time. Applicants should submit a CV with enclosures including a plan for the artistic assignment or research to the Student Affairs Office of the Theatre Academy. The right to study is granted by the Rector on the proposal of the Education and Research Council.
