Eeva Anttila
Professor of Dance Pedagogy

Department
Eeva Anttila (Ed.Lic, Doctor of Arts in dance) has been involved in dance and dance education since 1980’s, focusing on dance education for children and youth, and on contemporary dance pedagogy. She has worked in Theatre Academy Helsinki (department of dance and theatre pedagogy) since 1996, first as research assistant, then as lecturer, and now as professor in dance pedagogy. She has been the Chair of the department in 2000-2011 and been a member of many administrative bodies of Theatre Academy. She is actively involved in the performing arts research center (TUTKE), teaching and advising doctoral students. Her own dissertation (2003) focuses on dialogical dance pedagogy, and her current research interests are, e.g., somatic approaches to dance pedagogy, embodied knowledge and embodied learning. In 2009 her article “What does a dancer know?” was rewarded as the best science article of Adult Education Journal. She leads a five-year development and research project in collaboration with the city of Vantaa titled “The entire school dances!”. She has published several articles on dance pedagogy in national and international publications. She has published a book titled “Time to dance” (1994) and edited a book “The imprint of art: Paths and intersections of arts pedagogy” (2011), both in Finnish. She is an active member in many organizations in dance and arts education, e.g., the Chair of Dance and the Child International, and board member of Hollo Institute.
