Futurismista performanceen - 1900-luvun kokeellinen teatteri 3 op

Opintojakso käsittelee Euroopassa ennen toista maailmansotaa vaikuttaneiden avantgradististen liikkeiden kokeellisia esityksiä ja niiden yhteyksiä nykyteatterin ilmiöihin ja performanssitaiteeseen. Opetuksessa perehdytään monipuolisen kuvamateriaalin ja ääninäytteiden välityksellä futuristien,
Venäjän avantgardistien, dadan ja Bauhausin kokeellisiin esityksiin sekä surrealismia ennakoineeseen teatteriin, happeninigiin, fluksukseen ja suomalaiseen 1980-luvun varhaiseen performanssitaiteeseen.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP 2 cr.

How do I, and we as a group, make a physical composition right in front of an audience. How do we trough improvisation take the stage with solos, duets and quartets? When is what happening? How do I share the stage with other improvised elements? What is a choreographic landscape?

A workshop focusing on physical communication. A journey into the art of non verbal stage improvisation. With specific focus on arrival, on the period as in the end of a sentence, I will work on expanding and exploring the physical language of the individual. As well as getting it into dialogue internally on stage and externally to the spectators.

Bo Madvig born 1962 in Elsinore, Denmark. He had his stage debut as an actor in 1977. From Cirque d´Hiver in Paris to a field on the danish eilands, from the jungel in Southamerica to Volks Büne in Berlin, BM has performed cross the most of the world. From his start in 1977 it has become a more or les autodidact journey trough the abstract, the absurd and the realistic theatre. A journey including physical theatre, art installation, group theatre, the Japanese Butho and Noh, Stanislavsky, political theatre, dance in a post modern /new dance regi, dance video and the German Tanz Teater. It has become lots of directing, choreographing and teaching.

During the mid of 1980s BM studied new dance, physical theatre and performance at SNDO, Hoogeschool vor de Kunsten in Amsterdam.  His year was the first in the world to have Contact Improvisation on the agenda. Which led him and his generation to the ground breaking EuroCrash stile. The early 1990s BM lived and studied new dance in New York. Right after he moved toVenezuela where he lived for 2 years. There he worked local as well as in Colombia and in Cuba.

As a freelance artist BM has worked and performed with a big range of the worlds foremost directors and choreographers, such as  Sasha Waltz, Mark Tompkins, David Zambrano, Yoshiko Chuma,  Kirstie Simson, Deborah Hay and Julyen Hamilton amongst others. In Denmark he has been part of the legendary Exment, Tinbox og Hotel Pro Forma as well as worked with artists like Anders Christiansen, Annika Lewis, Kristjan Ingimarsson, Egill Palsson, Steward Lynch og Ninna Steen amongst others. From 1992 till 2008 BM has been artistic director of his own company BOSCO. Has since 2010 founded a new company under the name of bybo M

In a post modern /new dance regi, BM has since the early 1990s been a pedagog often demanded for, at higher educations cross Europe. Institutions such as European Dance Development Center in Arnhem, La Caldera in Barcelona, London Contemporary Dance School, School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam, School of Contemporary Dance in Denmark, Nordic School of Dance, On-Off Werkstadt i Bern, The House of Dance in Copenhagen, ZODIAC in Helsinki, School of Stage Art as well as the universitys of Istanbul, Cape Town and Stellenbosch in Southafrica.

Trough the platform Nordic Theatre School, BM ran from 1993 till 1996 his own full time education of stage artists. From 2001 till 2002 he was choreographer in residence at Dansescenen in Copenhagen. As a part of it he organized the improvisation festival Meet the Parents with performing artists such as Simone Forti, David Zambrano, Deborah Hay, Alesandro Certini, Julyen Hamilton and Katie Duck. In 2006 BM was nominated dancer of the year in Denmark.

FLAMENCO 2 op

Tutustutaan flamenco-tanssiin, kulttuuriin ja rytmiikkaan. Alkulämmittelyissä ja tanssi-improvisaatioissa keskitytään ylävartalon ja käsien kannatukseen ja liikeratoihin. Flamenco musiikin rytmeihin tutustutaan kehoperkussion ja taputusten
” palmasten” avulla. Lopputunneista tehdään osia koreografisista kokonaisuuksista tyylilajeina Sevillanas, tangos ja alegrías.

Lisäksi perustreeninä alkulämmittelyiksi "core" l. ydintukea vahvistavia lihaskunto ja hengitysharjoituksia.

NYKYTEATTERIN HISTORIA 2 op

Tavoitteet:
Opiskelija osaa hahmottaa muutoksia, joita länsimaisen teatterin itseymmärryksessä on tapahtunut 1960-luvulta nykyhetkeen.

Sisältö:
Käsittelyn kohteena ovat teatterin ja näytelmän/tekstin suhde, ohjaajuus ja valta, näyttelijä/esittäjä. Kehitystä käsitellään teatterille keskeisten osatekijöiden ruumiin, tilan ja ajan ja tekstin kautta. Teatteria tarkastellaan myös suhteessa muihin taiteenlajeihin, erityisesti kuvataiteeseen, performanssiin ja tanssiin.

MASK, OBJECT and VISUAL THEATRE

The course divided in various classes organized during Teak’s open classes offers a training in mask theatre and visual theatre. Each class will focus on a specific aspect of mask theatre and visual theatre allowing the students that will follow all the courses to cover a large spectrum regarding this particular approach to performance. The various courses are designed in such way that they are connected but at the same time independent in order to let the students free to choose which course to subscribe.
The second course, Commedia dell’ Arte and Biomechanics, will be held in December 2010 by Davide Giovanzana and Johanna MacDonald

Hikinen hiljaisuus - Sweat in  silence 
Naamiot näyttelijäntyössä 3 op

Viikon fyysisen teatterin intensiivikurssilla tutustutaan sanattoman naamioteatterin perusteisiin ja tutkitaan miten naamiotyöskentely voisi tukea näyttelijän kehollisen ilmaisun treeniä. Kurssilla yhdistetään Lecoq-pedagogiikasta tuttuja työvälineitä eli kokonaamioita ja mimodynamiikkaa, sekä perinteisesti tanssijoiden hyödyntämää Rudolf Labanin kehittämää liikeanalyysia. Päivät alkavat keho-ja tilatietoisuuden lämmittelyllä ja johtavat fyysisten ilmaisuelemettien mahdollisuuksien kokeiluun. Läpi koko kurssin kulkeva liike-elementteihin tutustuminen tarkentaa näyttelijäntyön fyysisen ilmaisun hahmottamista ja helpottaa roolin liikkeellistä rakentamista.

NEUTRAALINAAMIO -siviilikehosta työkehoon
Neutraalinaamio on ikään kuin suurennuslasi, jonka avulla esimerkiksi arkikehomme parasiittiliikkeet nousevat näkyviin. Ensimmäisen viikon aikana keskitytäänkin näyttelijän tietoiseen kehon- ja tilankäyttöön, sekä liikkeen ergonomisuuteen. Työskennellään esi- draamallisella alueella ja etsitään taloudellista liikettä. Naamioteknisten harjoitteiden lisäksi tutustumme Lecoqin käyttämään mimodynamiikkaan, jota voisi kutsua ei-kuvailevaksi miimilajiksi. Sen tarkoituksena on monipuolistaa näyttelijän liikelaatujen tuntemusta tulevaa roolinrakennusvaihetta varten. 

EKSPRESSIIVINEN NAAMIO -fyysinen roolinrakennus ja sanaton tarinankerronta
Toisella viikolla siirrytään ekspressiivisten naamioiden myötä inhimillisiin tunteisiin ja tarinoihin. Poppiuksen hulvattomien kokonaamioiden avulla houkutellaan näkyväksi näkymätöntä eli pyritään kehollistamaan roolihahmon sisäiset liikkeet; tunteet, jännitteet ja aikomukset.

Sweat in silence - masks in the actor’s training 3 cr.

The two-week intensive physical theatre course is an introduction to the basics of speechless mask theatre and a chance to explore how an actor can train his or her body to work expressively with masks. The training tools are familiar ones from the French Lecoq school, such as full masks (neutral mask, larval mask and expressive mask ) and mimodynamics, and these are combined with Laban movement analysis often used by dancers.
Teachers: Soile Mäkelä (MA) and Tanja Eloranta both from mask theatre company Teatteri Metamorfoosi
Clothes: neutral outfit (preferable black) that is comfortable while moving. Take also black pantyhose (we will cover the head with that)
Time: week 49: 7th – 11th of Dec10-17:00 (including one hour break)
