Lynette Hunter is Professor of the History of Rhetoric and Performance at the University of California Davis. Writer and editor of over twenty books, she also maintains a movement practice and creates performance art for academic settings. At UC Davis she has built a Practice as Research PhD that has brought together choreographers, visual artists, poets, theatre directors, film and media makers, performance artists and musicians, in a collaborative effort to reflect on how practice makes knowledge. Most recently she co-edited with Shannon Riley a guide to PAR, Mapping Landscapes for Performance as Research (Palgrave, 2009).

Born in Glasgow in 1970, Roddy Hunter is an artist, curator, educator and writer based in York, England since 2007 where he is Head of Fine Arts at York St John University. He studied at the University of Glasgow before living and working in Kingston-upon-Hull as a member of Hull Time Based Arts between 1994-98 and in Dartington as Lecturer in Visual Performance and, later, Director of Art at the College of Arts between 1998-2007. He gained an MA (Contemporary Arts) from Nottingham Trent University in 1998. He is interested in aesthetics, pedagogy and the art of action in relation to social and urban realities. 

He works mainly in performance and installation arts practice. His work has featured in exhibitions and festivals internationally. Critical writings include monograph essays on Alastair MacLennan, John Newling, and André Stitt. Numerous public lectures, talks and workshops have been given internationally. He is also moderator of 'Practice in Context' (www.practiceincontext.net), an online web platform for new art and research; and Chair of the Board of East Street Arts, Leeds (www.esaweb.org.uk).



JUDITH MARCUSE

Judith Marcuse’s career spans over 40 years as a dancer, choreographer, director, producer, teacher, writer and lecturer. She has created over 100 original works in dance, theatre and opera, for film and television, and has produced large-scale national and global festivals. Her repertory dance company toured Canada and internationally for over 15 years. Her work with and for young people has included multifaceted initiatives - workshops with thousands of young people, the creation and touring of live stage productions, and television and film projects.

A pioneer in the field of arts for social change, Judith teaches and presents in university and other settings in Canada and abroad, most recently in The Hague and in Durban. Recipient of many awards, including Canada’s major awards in choreography and an honorary doctorate from Simon Fraser University, she is the founder of the International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC), a global hub for learning, networking, research and training in the burgeoning field of arts for social change.
