TADaC 2011 Presents

TADaC 2011 presents two works choreographed by Liisa Risu and Ari Tenhula

Dark by choreographer Liisa Risu was originally created for Zodiak Center for New Dance and premiered on September 24, 2009. The new version for TADaC dancers builds on the original piece which is thematically based on Samuel Beckett`s short story Ill Seen Ill Said. Like the story itself, this work is contemplative, richly dark, full of associations and open to many interpretations.

Choreography: Liisa Risu
Sound design: Jussi Saivo
Lighting design: Pekka Pitkänen
Costume design: Riitta Röpelinen
Set design: Jyrki Pylväs

Dancer-choreographer Liisa Risu has been working extensively in the fields of contemporary dance, circus and theatre for over two decades.

Not Named by Ari Tenhula is built on the interaction between the dancers´ movements, fellow performers’ actions and the audience’s associations. This piece enables the audience´s associations that are triggered by the dance and action on stage to alter the course of action.
This strategy is employed in an attempt to expose the processes that create meaning during a dance performance but often remain silent. At the same time as the composition of the piece emerges, the performer-spectator feedback loop which is always present in the performance becomes a visible force in the dramaturgy.

Concept and direction: Ari Tenhula
Interaction Design and Visualisation: Teemu Määttänen
Sound design: Janne Hast
Lighting design: Tomi Suovankoski
Dramaturge: Silja Kejonen
Costume Design: Company
Programming: Jaakko Hakulinen

This unique performer –spectator interaction is based on Finnish text-to-speech software and is built in collaboration with Centre for Practice as Research in Theatre, Tampere and
TAUCHI- Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction.

Ari Tenhula is professor in dance and the director of the department of dance. His strong professional experience in contemporary dance, both as a dancer and choreographer, extends for over 20 years.

Premier January 14th  2011
