Tanssitaiteilijat Susan Rethorst ja Abigail Yager vierailevat Teatterikorkeakoulussa

Teatterikorkeakoulun tanssitaiteen laitoksella vierailee alkuvuonna kaksi kansainvälisesti mielenkiintoista tanssitaiteilijaa.

Amerikkalainen koreografi ja tanssintutkija Susan Rethorst pitää 18.1.-29.1. maisteriopiskelijoille kaksi työpajaa, joiden aiheina ovat tanssijan työ sekä perinteiden tuntemus. Rethorst on palkittu taiteilija ja pitkän, merkittävän uran tehnyt opettaja. Hän on opettanut keskeisimmissä tanssin oppilaitoksissa ja hänen teoksiaan on esitetty muun muassa MoMassa, Dance Theater Workshopissa ja Aix-en-Provence -festivaaleilla.

Tanssija ja koreografi Abigail Yager vierailee tanssitaiteen laitoksella helmikuun kahdella ensimmäisellä viikolla. Yager oli jäsenenä newyorkilaisessa Trisha Brown Companyssa vuosina 1995–2002. Sen jälkeen hän on tehnyt teoksia muun muassa American Dance Festivalille ja belgialaiseen P.A.R.T.S:iin. Hänen opetuksensa pohjautuu joogaan, qi gongin ja alexander-tekniikan opintoihin. Yager on opettanut eri puolilla maailmaa festivaaleilla ja yliopistoissa, joiden joukkoon kuuluvat muun muassa Korean National University of the Arts ja Le Centre Choréographique National de Rennes et de Bretagne. Abigail Yagerin kurssi on tanssitaiteen laitoksen opiskelijoille.

Susan Rethorst

Since 1975, Susan Rethorst has created dances out of New York City. Since 1995, she has divided her time between New York and Amsterdam, teaching choreography throughout Europe and Scandinavia and continuing to make work in both Europe and America. Rethorst's work has been presented by The Museum of Modern Art; The Kitchen Center, Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Saint Marks, The Downtown Whitney Museum, among others, as well as at various dance theaters, universities, and festivals throughout the U.S. Internationally her work has been produced by The Holland Festival, Spazio Zero Rome, The Kunsthalle Basel, The Aix-en-Provence Festival, among others. She has ongoing teaching relationships with the Dansens Hus in Copenhagen, at Dartington College in England, and at Firkin Crane in Cork, Ireland. In 1999, she was the recipient of a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. In 2002, she co-initiated a new post graduate study programme in Choreography/ New Media at the Amsterdam School for the Arts.

Abigail Yager

Abigail Yager was a member of the Trisha Brown Company from 1995–2002 during which time she also served as Ms. Brown’s musical assistant. She was an original cast member of Twelve Ton Rose, L’Orfeo, Canto Pianto, 5 Part Weather Invention, Rapture to Leon James, and Groove and Countermove. As a reconstructor of Ms. Brown’s work, she has worked with the Lyon Opera Ballet, at La Monnaie National Opera of Belgium, Le Festival International d’Art Lyrique, and has directed projects at the Taipei National University of the Arts, Five College Dance Department, The Ohio State University, the American Dance Festival and at P.A.R.T.S. Ms. Yager has taught at universities, festivals, and studios worldwide, including the, and Le Centre Choréographique National de Rennes et de Bretagne. Her teaching reflects her ongoing studies of Yoga, Qi Gong, and Alexander Techniques. She is currently Visiting Associate Professor at The Ohio State University, Mentor for the Hollins University/American Dance Festival MFA Program, and a returning member of the faculty at the American Dance Festival since 2003.
